THE CABGUIDE COURSE

One of the roles that continue to be a great importance to the Company is that of education. The Company offers cab drivers the opportunity to complete a Cab Guide Course and hundreds of drivers have successfully completed the course to date
.

The City University give this course full accreditation, so therefore this is recognised as a professional Guiding qualification. At the end of the course, students show by both a written & practical exam, that they have achieved the required standard as laid down by both the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers & City University.

On the Course, students receive lectures and guided walks conducted by Blue Badge Guides, and there is also an  interesting 2 hour session with ‘Knowledge Point’ Director Malcolm Linskey on the history of the cab trade. Malcolm is a Past Master and Liveryman of the Company.

During the duration of the course, visits are also made to further the knowledge of the candidates. This year visits have been made to The Churchill War Rooms, The Science Museum, and Museum of Docklands, Sir John Soanes Museum and The Museum of London. The inside view of these guided visits gives a fascinating insight into the work carried out by the museums.

If you would like more details on joining the next course, which will begin on 6th September  2010. There is no requirement to be a member of the Company but many students enjoy the course so much that this is their introduction to becoming a member.
