THE CHARITABLE TRUST
The Company has a Charitable Trust that is managed by the Trustees. Their remit is to manage the benevolent fund and to consider written requests for charitable donations to specific causes as stated in the Charity’s Deed of Trust. They also oversee the special events account under which the Company’s annual Magical Taxi Tour operates.
The Charities objectives are:
1. To administer benevolence when appropriate to members of The Worshipful Company of Hackney Drivers, retired members and widows or widowers of members.
2. To organise a trip for the benefit of children with life threatening diseases to Disneyland Paris in a convoy of taxis. The trip to be self funding by donations and sponsorship as far as is practical.
3. To support other Hackney Carriage Trade Charities to our best endeavours.
4. To support the Lord Mayors annual charity.
We raise monies by voluntary donations and sponsorship.
The main charitable event is The Children’s Magical Taxi Tour which thanks to the untiring efforts of the Disney Committee remains the highlight of the charity.
THE CHARITY AWARDS
Each year, The Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers make a Charity Award. This year the Award has been given to the town of Maldon for all their input into the annual East London Cabbies Outing (ELCO) Taxi Day. A presentation was made to the Mayor during the visit to The Plume School, when a crystal taxi on an engraved plinth was given to the townspeople. One particular person has helped the ELCO outing in the town. This lady is Jean Ingram and she is the liaison between the committee and the town. Jean was given The Friend of the Cab Trade Award. The Master of WCHCD, Michael Davies and the Awards Committee Chairman, Alan Parker, made both these presentations on behalf of the Company.
